Quilter Cheviot: Diary of a Fund Manager – Jagged Edge
In this week’s Diary an update on markets, what indices are telling us about the handling of Covid-19 and observations about portfolio construction now that ‘risk-free’ bonds are also return free.
Traders seemed to spend last week re-setting positions ahead of Autumn events. Profits were booked, rather than new positions established. Over-analysing these moves isn’t particularly productive and false signals, numerous. For the record, equities fell back. Gold wasn’t the place to be and silver even less so. Industrial commodities, including oil also moved lower. The US dollar was in the ascendancy and bonds were broadly unchanged.
